How to check your EV’s AC charging limit

Find the AC figure, not the fastest headline

The number you need is the maximum AC charging input for your exact vehicle version. A larger DC rapid-charging figure describes a different charging path; it does not tell you which Type 2 AC cable to choose.

Supply and charging point, cable, vehicle: a higher rating in one part cannot raise a lower limit elsewhere. Concept illustration; not to scale. Not product photography or installation instructions.

Check these four details

  1. Open the manufacturer’s manual or specification for the model year, battery version and market of your vehicle.
  2. Find “AC charging”, “on-board charger” or the equivalent section. Record the maximum kW, supported phases and current if stated.
  3. Check whether the on-board charger was standard or optional on your version. Do not assume another trim has the same equipment.
  4. Keep the source link or document revision with your note. If the information conflicts, ask the vehicle manufacturer or dealer to confirm the exact version.

Example: 11 kW AC and a 22 kW cable

The cable cannot raise an 11 kW vehicle limit to 22 kW. A charging point, its available supply or session settings may reduce power further. A three-phase cable rating also does not create a three-phase supply. These are selection limits, not a prediction of session time.

Turn the information into a choice

Write down: vehicle and year; AC kW; phase and current; charging-point connection; measured cable route. Compare those details with the exact product configuration. If AC capability is still unknown, keep it unknown and request help instead of choosing by the largest number.
